Handing over documents to 14 women participants from rural area for training in Barefoot College, Tilonia, Rajasthan under ITEC programme on 12.9.2018

The High Commission of India is sending 14 women participants from Botswana for training at Barefoot College, Tilonia, India under the ITEC programme. It is a fully funded programme by the Government of India. These participants will stay in India for six months from 15th September 2018 and will obtain training in Solar Energy and other streams. ITEC programme is the flagship programme of the Government of India for capacity building. So far Botswana has benefited from training of various Government officials, deputation of experts, etc. Over the last five years, more than 550 participants have attended and benefited from this programme. The main aspect of cooperation is capacity building which focuses to enhance the local capacity and local opportunities as possible for Botswanan talents and skills in a wide range of specialized areas such as Solar Energy, public sector administration, banking, finance, entrepreneurship, women empowerment, ICT, etc. Barefoot College is a voluntary organisation working in the fields of education, skill development, health, drinking water, women empowerment and electrification through solar power for the upliftment of rural people. Barefoot Approach has spread to more than 70 countries. They are expanding with regional facilities in Africa, Latin America and Southern Asia. Barefoot’s exceptional work is a direct result of Barefoot approach, adopted from the principles of Mahatma Gandhi. The Barefoot College is one of the few places in India where Gandhi’s spirit of service and thoughts on sustainability are still alive and respected. The Barefoot College and Bishop Elias Taban were recipients of the Clinton Global Service Award in 2013. Their meeting kicked off an extraordinary partnership that has culminated with expanding the Barefoot experience into Africa.
