This is to kindly inform that the Government of India advises all PIO Card -holders with valid PIO Cards to apply for conversion of PIO Cards to OCI Cards. Please visit https://ociservices.gov.in/ for completing the process of conversion.
Nevertheless, as an update, it is hereby informed that the Bureau of Immigration (Government of India) will accept PIO Cards as valid travel documents till 31 December 2024 when a PIO Card holder is travelling to India along with a valid foreign passport.
This is subject to the condition that, if in the meantime, any deadline is not notified by the I.C.A.O. thereby making hand-written PIO Cards invalid. In case I.C.A.O. invalidates hand-written PIO Cards, PIO Card-holders may have to obtain appropriate visa from Indian Embassies/High Commissions/Consulates before travelling to India.
At HCI Gaborone, fee for conversion of PIO Card into an OCI Card is Pula 1370/-, payable in cash at the counter, after completing online application process at the website https://ociservices.gov.in/
